Canoe picture - Bastrop, Texas

The Colorado River winds past pine covered hills in Bastrop, the same today as in 1832 when the City was founded. This natural setting has earned Bastrop a reputation as the “Home of the Lost Pines.” The Loblollies are just a few minutes from downtown in Bastrop State Park, which has one of three area golf courses. Colorado River access is available within the City at Fisherman's Park. These are but a few ways in which you'll discover natural beauty and outdoor recreation in our area.

The Colorado River Refuge (CRR) offers a true nature experience 10 minutes from downtown Bastrop. With over 2 miles of riverside and cliff side trails, there is something for every taste. Want to sit and watch the river flow or listen and watch for birds (including Bald Eagles)? Check out the Cottonwood Kings or Two Bridges trail. Are you interested in hiking through upland meadows and enjoying rustic bridges and loop trails? Then you will like the Dragonfly Trail system on the west side of the CRR. Looking for a work out jogging or mountain biking? You can do both at the CRR and still make happy hour in Bastrop! There is even an all-access trail that leads to the river side. Strollers, young children or other folks with limited mobility will like how easy it is to reach the cool and shady Cottonwood Kings trail.

You will think you are thousands of miles from civilization, but you can enjoy the CRR and have time to shop in Bastrop or explore Bastrop and Buescher State Parks and still be home for dinner!

Click here for a downloadable trail guide! Or you can stop by the PPLT office at the entrance to Tahitian Village or call 512-308-1911 to request one.
